Wh...I didn't notice you comment until recently. Why is being interested in what the slaves did "whitewashing." Black work matters, so lets try to figure out what they did. However, in my post I am not fair to the slaves. They were instrumental in laying the roof of what was up to then the largest building in America. Crews with both white and black laborers cut the oaks used for the beams. Slaves sawed the beams (and got paid a dime a day that they could keep themselves)Then under the supervision of white carpenters, they laid all the framing out on the ground, then piece by piece, with help of cranes, got that on the top of the building, and then laid the roof. The white carpenters protested that as well as doing their usual work, they also had to boss the slaves doing the lifting and laying. They wanted extra pay. When whites want extra pay for what slaves did, you know slaves did virtually all the work.<br />Bob ArnebeckBob Arnebeckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15893961792819124892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20701877.post-30685954174273862552020-08-05T04:07:52.903-07:002020-08-05T04:07:52.903-07:00It's pretty much fact that slaves did indeed b...It's pretty much fact that slaves did indeed built it so I don't get the whitewashing of this history. Them doing the heavy work and not the "skilled" work doesn't mean they didn't build it. Just seems dishonest.YippitySkiphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14685048480354003474noreply@blogger.com
